Where I Am Now..
So far, I am pretty sure that I want to focus on the American reaction to immigration and what was doen about it here. So far, I've only really found information about people being against it and not wanting immigrants to come into our country. I want to find more information about people who wanted immigration and why they feel this way. It's interesting to learn about how scared immigrants made Americans. I understand a little bit more about why immigrants weren't wanted here, and why restrictions were made on them, which makes me want to understand from more perspectives why they were for or against immigration and what they thought would/could happen in the future because of them.

Wow Lana. You write SO much. I like how you want to focus on the reactions of Americans. I personally am for immigration; i like the idea of people choosing where they want to live. I dont like how other people can choose this for you. How is it possible that other people can dictate where you live. I know that where ever you take this project, it will rock my world.

ReplyDeletePerhaps the reason you are finding so much about Americans being against immigration is because the vast majority of Americans were, in fact, against it. From my understanding, this is not far from the truth. While now it may seem insensitive to turn away people who simply wanted to share the American dream and leave the intolerable conditions of their homes, Americans had to look out for themselves. As things are now, immigrants would work for lower wages, making it harder for an American, who had a higher standard of living, to find and keep a job. This was only one of the many fears Americans about immigrants. A large part of it was simply Xenophobia, or the fear of the unknown. Foreigners are just that, foreign. This scared people then just as it does now.
